Surgery
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is mainly characterized by high intraocular pressure, which destroys the nerve fibers of the optic nerve. This phenomenon will lead to a progressive loss of vision, initially peripheral and then progressively towards central vision.
Early detection helps prevent progression
of the disease.

Treatment
Treatment options
At Vision Future Switzerland, we offer a range of advanced treatment options, from pharmacological treatment to surgery.
All these treatments do not cure glaucoma, but they do limit or halt the destruction of the optic nerve, thereby preventing complete blindness.
- Pharmacological treatment
Glaucoma can be treated with eye drops to lower IOP (intraocular pressure). - Surgery
Glaucoma can also be treated surgically, with a small laser incision (iridotomy) to encourage the circulation of aqueous humor (intraocular fluid) in the eye, thereby lowering IOP.

Operations
The objectives of the
glaucoma surgery
Glaucoma surgery aims to distribute intraocular pressure through a small laser incision (iridotomy).
- Quick, painless operation in 1 to 5 minutes
- Local anesthesia (drop of anesthetic eye drops)

Preoperative examination :
Prior to surgery, a thorough evaluation is carried out, including intraocular pressure tests and optic nerve examinations.
Surgical procedure :
of the eye.
Post-operative follow-up :
Long-term follow-up :
Results vary from patient to patient, but the main aim is to slow disease progression and preserve vision, often requiring ongoing medical treatment and regular check-ups.

FAQ
Some quick answers to your questions
Can glaucoma be permanently corrected?
Not all treatments will cure glaucoma, but they will limit or halt the destruction of the optic nerve, thus preventing vision loss. The key is early treatment.
What are the treatment options for glaucoma?
Glaucoma can be treated pharmacologically or surgically.
What does IOP mean?
In ophthalmology, IOP refers to intraocular pressure. It's important to have your IOP checked regularly, because by the time you notice a drop in vision, glaucoma is usually well advanced and the lost visual field can no longer be recovered.
