Myopia

Myopia is a visual defect that generally appears in adolescence and affects over 35% of the Swiss population.

The perception of an object becomes blurred at a distance and sharp up close.
A person suffering from myopia will often squint to see.

The main cause is an excessively long eye, which forms the image of an object behind the retina.

  • Symptoms: visual fatigue, headaches and/or blurred distance vision
  • Causes: hereditary, excessive use of screens, lack of outdoor activity

Laser eye treatment

Laser surgery for myopia

In addition to wearing glasses or contact lenses, laser surgery for myopia is an excellent alternative for people who want to see freely.

This common procedure is quick and painless.
It consists in reducing the curvature of the cornea to allow the image to re-form on the retina (sharp point).
The type of laser will be determined during the pre-operative examination with the surgeon.

The operation is performed under local anaesthetic and lasts just a few minutes.
The patient returns home the same day.

  • Fast (a few minutes), painless operation (local anaesthetic)
  • Depending on the technique chosen, visual recovery within 24 to 48 hours.

Two laser techniques

Lasik

100% Laser is the most recent and reliable technique for correcting distance vision defects (myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism).

This technique is completely painless and you can resume your activities the very next day.

PKR

PKR, or refractive photokeratectomy, is a technique generally recommended for people with high myopia or severe dry eye.

Completely painless, this technique nevertheless requires several days of visual recovery.

Operation sequence

Laser surgery for myopia

Prior to any laser eye surgery, a complete visual assessment is mandatory to determine your eligibility.

Preoperative examination :

The ophthalmologist ensures that you have no contraindications to the operation.
He performs a thorough assessment of your visual health and answers any questions you may have.

Day of operation

Under local anaesthetic, this operation involves modifying your cornea so that the image can once again be formed on the retina (point of sharpness).

Post-operative follow-up :

You will be back home the same day.
Instructions will be given to you by the medical team.

Visual recovery :

Visual recovery generally takes 24 to 48 hours.
You can resume your activities the next day.
